Carer Support Services

Sometimes carers are too busy looking after others and they often do not have time, or make time, for themselves.

AMCS recognises that the health and wellbeing of carers is extremely important. Providing carer support through respite, supporting with service gaps, equipment, health and wellbeing and other tailored support, carers can access AMCS Carer Support Services that will ensure they receive a much needed break from their caring role.

Who are carers?

Carers are people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

Who is eligible for our Carers Initiatives?

No formal referral process is required. You are eligible if:

  • the person that you support is currently receiving funding from My Aged Care or NDIS.

  • the person that you support is not currently receiving funding from My Aged Care or NDIS.

Simply call us to check your eligibility and we will work to support you in whatever capacity we can.

How Can we Help You?

We provide tailored support to you based on your individual needs. We work in partnership with you by discussing your priorities. We can support your short-term and ongoing goals to improve your health and wellbeing as well as supporting the person you are caring for.

Some examples of the types of support we can offer are:

  • Providing one-off or short-term support for carers, including goods and equipment, that can add to other services or fill service gaps
  • Responding to individual needs of carers through flexible tailored support approaches, including support to address immediate or urgent needs
  • Supporting the carer separately or both the carer and the person they care for at the same time and at the same place, for example sharing in an enjoyable activity in the local community
  • Helping carers maintain their own health and wellbeing and adding to their quality of life – through respite and through increased opportunities for social connection, and social and/or physical activities
