Companionship at Christmas

The festive season can be difficult for all sorts of reasons, which is why it is important to feel supported. This Christmas, AMCS staff and volunteers held “match meetings” to support seniors who participate in our volunteer program.

On the 24th of December Lahiru Muthukumarana, a current MBA student with a full time day job, met his companion as part of his first volunteering session with AMCS. After sharing stories and getting to know each other, it was clear that his companion was having a difficult time with social isolation during the festive season. Just two days later and in his own time, Lahiru was back again to support his new friend to ensure that she felt seen, heard and cared for during this time. About this experience Lahiru said:

“Christmas comes once a year, and people get busy so, it’s important to think about people who might be isolated”

We wholeheartedly agree and consider ourselves very lucky to work with people who share our genuine drive to care, support and empower individuals within the Victorian community. A huge thank you to all of our staff and volunteers for the passion that you so consistently deliver to those in need.
